Ben jij benieuwd hoe de overheid er in de toekomst uit kan zien? In het DIT-lab (Discover Innovations of Tomorrow) werk je samen met andere studenten én professionals van DUO aan vraagstukken rond digitale identiteit en publieke dienstverlening.

Het DIT-lab is gevestigd in de Digital Society Hub en biedt jou de kans om te leren, experimenteren en bijdragen aan innovaties. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het digitaal uitgeven van diploma’s, dat grote impact kan hebben op hoe DUO haar diensten inricht. Of het testen van een persoonlijke datakluis die automatisch gegevens deelt met je aanvraag voor studiefinanciering – allemaal projecten die nog volop in ontwikkeling zijn. Je gaat aan de slag met actuele, complexe vraagstukken waarvoor we gebruikmaken van een gestructureerde innovatieaanpak. Samen onderzoeken we wat er technisch mogelijk is én wat gebruikers nodig hebben.

In het DIT-lab werk je:

• In multidisciplinaire teams met studenten en DUO-medewerkers
• Met opkomende technologieën zoals Self Sovereign Identity (SSI), verifiable credentials (VC), privacy enhancing technologies en datakluizen
• In een open en dynamische leeromgeving waar experimenteren en samenwerken centraal staan

Kortom: wil jij praktijkervaring opdoen in een innovatief lab waar je meewerkt aan de digitale overheid van de toekomst? Dan is het DIT-lab dé plek voor jou.

Binnen het lab maken wij gebruik van o.a. een wallet en een datakluis om digitale credentials op te slaan en via een LLM gekoppeld via MCP te interacteren met DUO. Dit zijn verifiable credentials die b.v. door een universiteit uitgegeven kunnen worden. Dit project heeft als doel om deze credentials, of afgeleide gegevens ervan, te gebruiken om te interacteren met DUO en hiermee een versimpelde aanvraag studiefinanciering te doen. We gebruiken hiervoor een LLM om met de gebruiker (student) te chatten, suggesties te doen en de stappen te doorlopen om studiefinanciering aan te vragen.

Het MCP (Model Context Protocol) is een open standaard, ontwikkeld door Anthropic, die standaardiseert hoe AI-applicaties verbinding maken met en gebruikmaken van externe tools en databronnen. Het fungeert als een universele vertaler of USB-aansluiting voor AI, waardoor agents toegang krijgen tot databases, berekeningen kunnen uitvoeren, zoekmachines kunnen gebruiken en informatie kunnen ophalen om taken uit te voeren die verder gaan dan hun initiële training. Dit protocol stelt AI-systemen in staat om nieuwe, realtime informatie te integreren in hun besluitvorming en maakt het eenvoudiger om complexe AI-applicaties te bouwen die gebruikmaken van tools.

Contribute to the digital government of tomorrow – in DUO’s DIT Lab Are you curious about what the government of the future could look like? In the DIT Lab (Discover Innovations of Tomorrow), you’ll work together with other students and DUO professionals on challenges surrounding digital identity and public services. 

The DIT Lab is located in the Digital Society Hub and offers you the chance to learn, experiment, and contribute to innovations. Think, for example, of digitally issuing diplomas, which could have a major impact on how DUO organizes its services. Or testing a personal data vault that automatically shares information with your student finance application – all projects that are still under development. You’ll work on current, complex issues using a structured innovation approach. Together, we explore what is technically possible and what users need. 

In the DIT Lab, you will work:

Within the lab, we use, among other things, a wallet and a data vault to store digital credentials. These are verifiable credentials that, for example, can be issued by a university. This project aims to use these credentials, or derived data from them, to interact with DUO and thereby make a simplified student finance application.

The MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard created by Anthropic that standardizes how AI applications connect to and use external tools and data sources. It acts like a universal translator or USB plug for AI, enabling agents to access databases, run calculations, use search engines, and retrieve information to perform tasks beyond their initial training. This protocol allows AI systems to integrate new, real-time information into their decision-making and makes it easier to build complex, tool-using AI applications.
